AIRDRIE OVER 50 CLUB                           -                      JULY 2024 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to all new members that have joined the Over 50 Club. Please check the Club Activities Calendar for all scheduled activities as many activities are cancelled in July and August. You may also find the activities/events calendar and newsletter posted on our website – airdrieover50club.com .

Kudos to everyone who participated in the Annual Senior Week in Airdrie, held from June 3 to June 9, 2024.  Several different activities occurred throughout the City from Airdrie Over 50 Club, Abrio Lodge, Luxstone Senior Living, Cedarwood Station, Airdrie Care Community, Fletcher Village and T&C Hall by Volunteer Airdrie who also provided free transportation to help seniors attend the activities of their choice.   Airdrie Over 50 Club held the “Bubbles” Acrylic Art Painting Class, the Polymer Clay Pens Art Project and a Connection Café. These were well attended and enjoyed by all.

The Planning Committee of 12 were represented from the above noted locations. Funding was received from local businesses, Big Country Sports, private sources as well as from the above noted sponsors. The events were well attended. In some cases, participants paid a small fee to enter and door prizes were available at events.   Again we thank everyone for their support and hope to see you all at these events next year.

Thank you to the Airdrie Over 50 Board for thanking the volunteers by offering them a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, held at Cheryl’s Kitchen this past week. It was delicious, enjoyed by all and truly appreciated!

Without volunteers, the club would not exist, so thank you everyone!

With the summer just beginning, many of our club activities are cancelled for the months of July and August.  Please check the activities/events calendar to see which activities/events are ongoing.

We do have ONE big event happening in July.  That’s our Vice-President’s BBQ !  It will be held on July 31st,2024.  Doors open at 4:30 pm and dinner served at 5:00 pm, followed by a dance.  Due to the size of our hall, we must limit the number of participants to 90 and tickets are presently on sale at $10.00 per person. Please contact Bill Tolley at 825-945-4813 or Rose Tolley at 403-605-5620 . Tickets are selling quickly, so don’t delay!  Hope to see you there!

Bingo is also ongoing throughout the summer. This is the Club’s biggest fund raising event. Every Sunday, doors open at 11:30 am and bingo starts at 1:00 pm.  Come join us and have fun, and the excitement of winning.  Jackpot this coming week is in 59 numbers…… it is expected to be won soon!  We also do a 50-50 draw just before bingo starts.  We have a snack bar filled with goodies and fresh popcorn.   Hope to see you soon!

Community Links is cancelled for the months of July and August.

You may have noticed that new dart boards have been set up in the club house.  While no schedule will be made in July and August, we are working on scheduling this activity in September. Additional news on this activity to follow in the next newsletter. Meanwhile, feel free to use the boards to practice and sharpen your skills.

There is a scheduled travel trip to Spruce Meadows in Calgary on July 4th, 2024.  Cost is $20.00 per person and as of today there is still room available. If interested, please contact Jean Moorhouse at 403-948-3312.

Hoping the summer brings us much sunshine, just enough heat to be comfortable. Wishing you all a safe, happy summer as many will be travelling or enjoying their cottages!  SEE YOU ALL IN SEPTEMBER!
